Being a major player in the sector of global energy Canada is currently ranking fifth place in producing and seventh place in consuming energy and also forth position in the production of renewable energy around the world.
Obtained from a natural source renewable energy is virtually inexhaustible, either generating or capacity due to its unlimited availability and its extensive approval issued by its nature: "clean, or green ".
Studies show that the current domestic market offers great opportunities regarding renewable energy because of its favorable political will in major Canadian provinces as well as the various incentive tax reductions programs related to this business.
Ontario is the province that leads in the growth of renewable energy, with Quebec followed very close by and Alberta in the third position.
Canada is currently the ninth largest producer of wind energy. However, despite being among the top ten countries with the largest installed capacity, its relative position in this market is still far from industry leaders such as: China, United States, Germany, and Spain. Nowadays 83 countries are using wind power around the world.
Although this represents only 2.5 percent of world total electricity consumption, annual profitability last year reached approximately about 3,100 million Canadian dollars and generated about 13,000 new jobs and work positions.
Now the most important question is: What is wind energy?
Well, as the word speaks for itself, it is the energy generated by wind, which is the world’s cleanest source in the production of electricity, it is renewable and produces no emissions of greenhouse gases or waste products, and does not require drilling, extraction or refining the product as well.
Wind power is a simple conversion of the wind into useful forms of energy.
This energy is an excellent alternative and it is ideal to provide electricity to remote locations, like the regions whose geographical location does not have an access to electrical wiring provided by commercial companies. It is a very profitable business in jungle areas, deserts, islands and mountainous areas, places where electricity is needed but where is no access to it.
According to Canadian Wind Energy Association (CANWEA), a non-profit association, their goal is to promote the development of wind energy on Canadian territory through their 420 members.
Their studies estimated and projected that by the year 2015, 20% of the energy produced in the region will be the wind energy.
Unfortunately as in all areas, the development and implementation of this new energy technology has already found its first critics and dissidents who did not approve it just because of the high cost of the construction, implementation and maintenance of those facilities. Similarly, they also claim that it destroys the landscape, reduces the value of neighboring properties and discourages tourism.
Yet the energy sector is very important not only because Canada is one of the main energy producers worldwide, but also because it is one of the countries with the highest electricity consumption per capita. It is clear because of the weather conditions and the high average income of its working population.
Currently the big industries worldwide are trying to develop their business by stating "social responsibility" and investing in clean and renewable energy, and are widely known for fulfilling this concept.
Similarly and realistically it should be understood that life expectancy, the long-term demand for renewable energy, would increase driven by the decline of fossil fuels and carbon reduction policies.
