The "Islamic State" or "Isis" continues to terrorize the global population.

On the morning of March 22, 2016, three violent explosions occurred in the city of Brussels - Belgium, leaving at least 30 dead and over 160 wounded.

Police says there were two explosions inside the Zaventem Airport, while the third explosion happened in a subway station in the district of Maalbeek.

While the news was the main headline around the globe and led the holders of the various media, simultaneously a website linked to the organization of the Islamic State took over authorship of the attack, arguing that their "brave fighters" had carried out the operation.

A very similar scenario, the one you can remember happening last November 13, 2015 in Paris - France, where 133 people died and hundreds were injured by the same Islamist group.

It is in this context that I think that the first thing to do is to ask: Who is this radical group calling itself Islamic State or Isis?

-The Islamic State roots date back to 2002 when the Jordanian Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, created the radical group Tawhid wa al-Jihad.

This occurred one year after the US-led invasion in Iraq, where Zarqawi swore allegiance to Osama Bin Laden founded al Qaeda in Iraq, which became the largest insurgent force during the years of the American occupation in the region.

However, after the death of Zarqawi in 2006, al Qaeda set up an alternative organization called Islamic State of Iraq. (Also known as: "ISIS" Islamic State Iraq and Syria, the acronym in English).

Then in 2010, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi became the new leader, he rebuilt the organization and conducted multiple attacks in the country.

In April 2013, Abu Bakr announced the merger of militias in Iraq and Syria baptizing finally as Islamic State.

After in June 2014, they took control of Mosul, the second largest city and continued their advance towards the capital, Baghdad. It was as well as mid-July of the same year had consolidated their control over dozens of cities and towns.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi's Islamic State leader started the creation of the caliphate in August 2014. A "caliphate" is a form of state led by a political and religious leader according to Islamic law or sharia, which controls a territory between the states of Syria and Iraq and aims to receive full support from the Muslim world.

Currently ISIS only has a presence in these two countries, but has promised to "break the borders of Lebanon and Jordan" in order to "liberate Palestine" and has therefore requested the support of Muslims around the world and demanded that all swear loyalty to their leader.

It should be understood that the Islamic State is an extremely powerful and dangerous organism.

-Powerful group: because the Islamic State reported to be about US $ 2,000 million in cash, becoming the richest insurgent group in the world. At least 2,500 of its members come from Western countries; early support came from some individuals from Arab Gulf countries like Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Lately he has managed to become a sustainable organization financially autonomous, earning millions of dollars from the sale of oil and gas fields it controls, taxes it, collects on its territory and some illegal activities such as extortion, smuggling and kidnapping are involved.

-Dangerous group: Because their tactics are brutal, including mass killings, kidnapping and beheading of religious minorities broadcasted on social networks, the Islamic State has produced a wave of fear and hatred throughout the world.

Similarly the power of the weapons of the Islamic State is quite broad, according to US officials. They believe that Islamic State has about 15,000 active militants. In addition to a considerable number of fighters who are neither Iraqi nor Syrian figures and these range from 30,000 to 50,000 people.

Islamic State Warriors have access to and are able to use a lot of weapons, including heavy artillery, machine guns, rocket launchers, anti-aircraft guns, tanks and armoured vehicles of the Syrian and Iraqi armies. They have also managed to have a steady supply of ammunition that enables them to regularly assemble the army.

Some estimates put the Islamic state and its allies in control of at least 40,000 square kilometres in Iraq and Syria, which would be for example the same geographical area, which occupies Belgium.

At least eight million people live under partial or total control of ISIS, which has implemented a strict interpretation of sharia = Islamic law, forcing women to wear veils, forcing non-Muslims to convert or pay taxes, and imposing penalties including executions.

Islamic State members are "jihadists" who have an extremist interpretation of the Sunni branch of Islam and believe they are the only true believers. Their vision of the rest of the world is based on the fact that nonbelievers want to destroy their religion, thus justifying its attacks against other Muslims and non-Muslims.

In the middle of this Dantesque scene what is clear is that the tactics used by Islamic State are of barbaric character, beheading, crucifixions and mass murder have been used to frighten their enemies.

Finally understand that we will not stop witnessing these practices and attacks, as these are an act of "premeditated revenge" by ISIS, due to previous occupations and military force provided by the French militia and Belgian Syrian territory.
